I'd recently watched the first few episodes of the old Star Trek show. With 4 years, 11 months, and 2 weeks remaining of the 5 year mission (Kirk's 1st episode), Capt. James T. Kirk had already lost 3 officers. 2 of them were crucial positions.
Kirk lost his version of Lt. Commander DATA, the 5th highest ranking officer on board. Trek fans would know who the top 4 were.
Capt. Kirk had also lost his version of Counselor Troi. The 1st woman crew member killed in action during Kirk's command was the ship's psychiatrist, played by Sally Kellerman. I didn't realize how hot she was back when she was in her 30's. http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Image:Elizabeth_Dehner.jpg I've only seen her as an old woman.

After only a few episodes, the body count was already at 8. 4 were officers and 4 were enlisted. 4 blues, 3 yellows, and 1 red uniform.
How many of the 430 were left at the end? Some didn't die like the girl who stayed with Kahn. http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Image:MarlaMcGivers.jpg
