Motorola W385 connection problems?

Hey, I just got a Motorola W385 cellphone but when I connect it to Motorola phone tools (I've tried versions 4.5 and 5.0), it keeps telling me it doesn't recognize the "device". In both versions the automatic live update launches but says no update is available and when i try installing the device manually in the 4.0 version the model isn't available in the list. What should I do? I use an ordinary USB cable that I took from my digital camera but nothing seems to be working.
