Why would ebay sellers even bother with $0.01 or few $$ auction sales?

NOTE: Ebay.... NOT Craigslist. I'll leave craigslist for another time.

I've seen and participated in auctions where the item sells for $0.01. Why even bother? AFAIK, ebay takes that away and then some after insertion, final value, other site fees, and PayPal fees (unfortunately, many buyers do NOT feel safe using alternatives).

-Why not set your starting bid higher, but still below the the next threshold for listing fees? Some items may have been sold for higher b/c of this

I understand how setting 1cent starting bid is a tactic to encourage more bidding, but sometimes you just won't get many buyers since some items aren't as mainstream or popular. At least by setting something at $5 or $9.99, you're getting some bucks off your sale

AFAIK, the reasons include... boosting positive feedback, the experience of online selling, or the seller was aiming for a good sale but was prepared for a "seller's loss" which was what ended up happening. What other reasons are there?

Because shipping is so high they make there money already (and no fees come out of shipping). So even if they sell it for .01 the usually still make money!
