NOTE: Ebay.... NOT Craigslist. I'll leave craigslist for another time.

I've seen and participated in auctions where the item sells for $0.01. Why even bother? AFAIK, ebay takes that away and then some after insertion, final value, other site fees, and PayPal fees (unfortunately, many buyers do NOT feel safe using alternatives).

-Why not set your starting bid higher, but still below the the next threshold for listing fees? Some items may have been sold for higher b/c of this

I understand how setting 1cent starting bid is a tactic to encourage more bidding, but sometimes you just won't get many buyers since some items aren't as mainstream or popular. At least by setting something at $5 or $9.99, you're getting some bucks off your sale

AFAIK, the reasons include... boosting positive feedback, the experience of online selling, or the seller was aiming for a good sale but was prepared for a "seller's loss" which was what ended up happening. What other reasons are there?
