Inside Sales......a good career or not?

If you are an inside sales rep, or any other sales rep, what are the pluses and drawbacks of your job?

Generally being an inside sales rep means dealing with metrics. Metrics are not always fun. Now of course, you need a measure of where you should be, what you should accomplish, etc etc. But here's the problem.

Most employers think that they can substitute sales training or motivation with just a kick in the targets. Why motivate your employees when they'll work harder to achieve the bonus they already recieve? Hey, why not double it twice!

The thing is, if you can find a company that hasn't already grown stagnant, and is currently in it's "growing" phase, the salesman is king. And it's a wonderful thing.

So to answer your question, sales rules, sometimes.
