    How can i figure my router if it was bought at a yard sale?

    I bought this router at a yard sale
    Its a router with a buitl in 5 ethernet port switch.
    My ISP is verizon. I used to have a modem that came with verizon dsl package by mail. I am using this router now instead. I want to configure it so i can name it "EAP" rouuter.
    I have a pentium 3 computer with windows xp. service pack 3.

    How am i able to talk to the router?
    can someone explain in detail so i can do it.

    1. if we had the make and model of the router we could help you out.
    2. The kind of computer you have is NOT relevent by any means as long as it has an ethernet cord.
    3. look up the make and model of the router on the internet and you can find a full description of what you need to do to set the router up.

    Try and find a guide on the Manufacturer's website. Basically you'll use your web browser to access the router and change your settings but the manual will tell you the default numbers.

    you must connect the router to verizon modem first, for security reason you cannot use any modem or router as an internet gateway, verizon only know there modem every device has a MAC address which is unique worldwide, you internet configurations are in verizon modem. please start by connecting the modem first then the router, your computers to the router, before you can make any changes in the router have also to know the router IP address.     You need the IP address of the router. Usually it's 192.168.0.1.

    Then you enter it into your http client. For example, http://192.168.0.1/
