why do horseflies chase you?

i was running like i do every day..and i walked through a patch of woods about and hour and a half after it rained..and i got through it and i felt a bite on my neck and i started sprinting and i looked behind me and i could literally see it chasing me and i sprinted for like 2 straight minuets before it finally stopped...i just want to know why
