I bought an unlocked iphone in the Cayman Islands. It was working fine until my husband tried to download ring tones. Its locked now and I can't get it unlocked. The itunes word come sup when the phone comes on. The slider is not even there. Anyone out there can help me please?

You mean its network locked? I suggest you can approach Mobileunlocksolutions.com and specify the country,locked network of iPhone.Based on the availability you can get the permanent unlock service along with free instructions.
