b/c salad is healthy and it will fill you up with healthy things instead of pigging out totally on the meal, that would make you consume more fat.
It helps clean out your intestines. Its just something healthy to eat before you eat your meal.
because it's good for you, they taste good and you'll probably eat less of what's not so good for you. i eat salad almost every day.
Ramanda has it right....all those veggies are healthy, and will help stop you from eating all the less healthy things that are in your dinner.
Because eating dark or red leafed lettuce is not only good for your heart and metabolism, but fills you up BEFORE the main course, thus you are less likely to overeat on foods that are higher in fats, and calories - you know - the ones you typically have AFTER the salad.
So you eat less of the actual meal which is generally less nutritious than the salad.
