When did you introduce peanut butter to your child?

We had my son's 1 year well baby visit today. The doctor said we could start giving him peanut butter now. I was blown away. I thought all this time that I would have to wait until at least 2, if not 3 years old. My mom has a severe peanut allergy and I told the doc this and she assured me it was okay to give but if I wanted to wait then fine. I am undecided now- he needs more protein in his diet. I have to put barbeque sauce on chicken for him to take a few bites.

What is your experience?

Do you have peanut butter in your house? If you do then your baby isn't allergic to it. I gave my kids peanut butter at age 1, when I gave them celery.

She was diagnosed with severe asthma at 11 months, because asthmatic kids often have allergies, I was cautioned to wait until after blood and skin allergy testing for all the major food/environment/pet allergies. After getting "no's" from both, we tried it at 15 months.

I've always been told 2 years old...however when my middle child gave her sister a reeces cup i was thinking that something bad was going to happen, she was going to have an allergic reaction, etc...Nothing happend.
Besides the risk for allergic reaction, doctors usually tell us to wait because of how thick and sticky the stuff is, they don't want the kid to choke on it...but who gives their child THAT thick of a p butter and jelly sandwich when they are that age???

maybe your mom has a peanut allergy bc peanut butter was introduced too yooung...before a year? or too late? i have read that peanut butter allergies and some allergies like it develop due to minimal exposure at the appropriate age. but....if your dr says hes fine, well, doc knows best of course.
i waited until 1 yr for my first and wanted to wait until 1 yr with my second but her genius father had no clue that he wasnt supposed to give her peanut butter and gave her some when she was 5 months and she got all poopy and stinky but was fine. i near-killed him and she hasnt had a lick of it since....not until her b-day which is coming up very soon.
