How do you know how people like to be greeted>?

Like you know when you start to get to know a person.. should you shake their hand? knuckle punch, or hug or kiss on cheek??? cause sometimes i dont give out hugs or cheek kisses because i feel the person might not be a "hug or kiss" person... but then they don't think i like them.. what's the best way to know??
and how do you greet people??

My personal assistant gets people to fill out a quick survey on how they like to be greeted, before I enter the room.

Usually, if you sort of start to lean in for a hug (I love hugs, but not from someone I'm just meeting). they'll pull back.

In most Northern and European cultures, you shake hands when being introduced.

A lot simply depends on what you see them doing with other people, and the culture of where you are. For instance, when I was in college, you could run up and hug someone when returning from winter break, even if you barely knew them. But you don't do that with a business acquaintance. Different culture.
