I can't connect to the internet after changing to a static ip address?

The PC that I changed the IP on, can't connect on the internet sometimes now. It disconnects eventually while in a session, or it doesn't work at the start. You have to reset the PC for it to work. Also, there is no Internet Connection icon anymore because it told me to disable the Local Area Connection to see if that was the source. I reenabled it but there is no icon for the internet connection anymore. Please help. Thanks.

Try using a higher static ip number, if you are using x.x.x.101 try using something like x.x.x.110
