Is it possible to use a desktop CPU with a wireless internet provider...

...such as AT&T rather than hi speed intern Since I've just moved, I won't have cable internet access but I dislike notebook computers.I prefer my fast as lightening CPU with a good old fashioned keyboard and 25" flat screen. What equipment do I need? Can you recommend a decent internet provider in Northern California.
