do i have to get anything special or do i just turn it on and there is the inteeerneet?

If your computer came with a wireless card built-in (look on the box for 802.11b, or 802.11g), and you have a box called a wireless router, then you are good to go, and you need to do a little setup in Windows. Just go to to the bottom right of your screen, right click on the little icon with 2 computers, and click connect to a network. Find your wireless router, and boom.

If not, then plug in an RJ45 cable from your internet modem to your laptop. They can be bought pretty cheaply ($5-10) at Best Buy. You DO NOT have to set this up usually, so don't click on the icon.

It would help if you said what the model of laptop you had, though.

just plug in the ethernet cable into your computer from the modem and thats it

will get your phone plug
then plug it onto your modem(mines is a dsl modem)
that connects to that now theres a ethernet cable connected to the modem if not buy one
now plug the ethernet cord to your labtop simple as that
