What does it mean when some one tells someone else there finger nails are dirty to see how they check them?

Either by flipping there hand over to curl there fingers back, or moving there hand out to look at there hand that way what does the different ways of looking suppose to mean?

I saw someone say "oh your nails are dirty" and the other person laughed and went "oh I know that joke you wanna see what way I check and she flipped her hands back and forth between the two. O.o
