I gave him my tax papers except for a few dribs and drabs in January. Now I'm hit with over $900 in late fees. I picked up my papers today. After riding him for months, I finally turned the problem of him not doing my taxes to a couple of family members and a financial advisor who recommended him. He did the taxes and I picked them up today,only to discover the late filing penalty!

Well you are at fault here for now making sure the extension was filed, you didn't follow up to verify he was working on your tax return.
Grow up and slow your pride, you made a mistake. Pay the amount and get another tax preparer, but things won't change if you are not on top of things.
