Can't believe nobody has mentioned An American Werewolf In London. Funny and genuinely scary in equal measure. Evil Dead II is a good example as well.

I'm seconding the guy that said Dogsoldiers.
It's made on a small budget but is still scary in parts, is full of suspense and has some epic lines in it.
also, slither is a half decent film.
then there is all the scary movies & shaun of the dead.
