this is a very serious problem,, your betta is depresses and about to die, it is making a graveyard for itsel, then it'll suicidef. you need to get rid of the bubbles each time you see them, or else if he makes enough, he will stop breathing and kill him self!

It's a great thing! it means your MALE betta is happy and ready to mate but it doesn't matter if he mates. The males use the bubble nests to hold frys or betta babies in!

If your SIAMESE Fighting Fish, AKA Betta, is blowing bubbles on the top of his tank, that means he's making a bubblenest. Generally males are given as gifts - they have the long, flowing finnage that their female counterparts don't have. Bubblenests are used for spawning, and they're blown by the male by instinct. It's sort of an, 'I'll blow this just in case a lady strolls by...' deal. It doesn't mean he's happy, or that he's actively seeking a spawning partner, or anything like that. He'll usually blow a new one when you change his water.
    Good luck!

i had betta fishes as well. alot of them. my betta use to make tons of bubbles not only cause of there natural protection but for mating season. during the summer times are when they make the most bubbles that seek to the top. males usueally do that to mate so they can put there eggs and fertilze them. thats waht they usually keep them for
