I pulled a back muscle Sunday- is it too soon to get a deep tissue massage?

I pulled a back muscle Sunday while shoveling snow. It's on the lower right side, and if I do anything but sit, it hurts incredibly bad (I'm 24 and haven't dealt with this kind of back pain before). I'm doing the usual heating pads and ibuprofen. My question is in regards to pulled muscles, should I wait a certain "time limit" for the muscle to heal before I get a deep tissue massage to help the pain? I have one scheduled tomorrow, and my mom, a nurse, was warning me against it.
