Today is the 4th day after extraction of the 3rd molar (upper jaw), and was with practically no trauma.
I have been taking good care and been doing the following :-
I have been gargling (extremely gently) with warm salt water 4 times a day. I have been on a liquid diet, and yet (very gently) wash my mouth after each meal. I have not smoked, except one today without the filter (small puffs) so there is very little suction. I have been very careful not to create any suction in my mouth. I have not drank through a straw. Luckily I have not sneezed, except once today, but not hard.
So I went to see the dentist today to see how the extraction site is healing. He had a look and said it is healing well, but still not to irritate it. He said that the first layer of the bloodclot has formed well but the wound still has to close. He said that I can reduce the salt water gargles to once inthe korning and once at night, and to continue the antibiotics, and painkillers if necessary. He thinks there is practically no chance of a dry socket, if I continue to be careful for the next 5 days.
Do you think a dry socket is possible at this stage?
