I live about a block away from the region's main hospital, and although it is a good facility, it's nothing like the major medical centers in other parts of the state. That is, I'm not sure they'll have some of the less-demanded services, one of which I happen to need.

I am looking for a counselor who specializes in (or at least has experience with) gender identity disorder (GID). Even in areas like Detroit and Lansing, there are only a handful of specialists, so my chances of finding one here are slim... the hospital is my best bet.

But I've never been to a hospital in a non-emergency capacity when it was related to my own care, and I've never been to this particular hospital before.

How do I find out if they have a person who specializes in GID, or if they know a person in the area who does? Do I just ring them up and try to navigate the automatic phone menu, or do I walk over to the hospital itself? If so, where do I go and who do I ask for?
