Can you bulk up by just using the machines without using the free weights?
Yes, if you go heavy but you get faster and more complete results by using free weights correctly.
When you lift a free weight, especially kettle bells or dumbbells, you are using more than just the single muscle groups used by the machine. You are developing balance and more core strength also. The stronger the core the more you can lift and the bigger you can get.
