This is a complicated question, so I'll try to make it simple: at the moment I'm proof-reading a pretty dramatic short story for a magazine. The background is (yeah, nothing new) a global virus that has infected all mankind, yadda yadda yadda.

The twist: nobody is dead or even sick yet. The virus is "waiting" for some kind of signal, be it natural, unnatural, biological, physical, chemical or whatever. So basically mankind can do nothing but to wait for the virus effect to break out.

The author claims that this is a realistic scenario - so I'm asking you before I ask the medical advisors I know: is it? Is that even remotely possible?

Cheers folks!
