Depression, constantly sleeping. Taking 5htp??
Hi all, I'm new here, and hope I can get some advice.
I have longstanding depression (7 years). I no longer take anything from my GP as I had an alergic reaction to the base of the tablets.
Along with the standard symptoms (apathy, disinterest, sadness etc) one of the biggest symptoms of my depression is my total exhaustion and constant need for sleep. I go to bed at 9pm and sleep through to 8am. I wake still feeling tired, and even need an nap during the day to make it to 9pm!
I was looking into taking 5HTP, but see it is for insomnia - would it make me sleep even more? Also, I see it is an appatite supressant - I'm 8 stone (5'5" tall), so could not take any weight loss.
I have had a blood test, I am low on iron (16) was 12, but 2 years of iron tabs got me to 16. GP says that's ok now... but this total exhaustion is really debilitating. I'm 48, female, no kids or husband - havn't got the energy for one!
Any advice would be welcome.
