Could my hands fall off while I sleep?

I dont think my hands will ACTUALLY fall off. When i wake up my hands are numb as i have slept on them. I have cut the circulation off. Could this do permanent damage to my hands i.e. nerve or muscle damge?

If so, how can i prevent myself from sleeping on them?

Most likely they will be fine, but I did hear on some current affairs TV show (that yes, isn't always believable) that someone did once fall asleep on some limb and then they did have permanent movement loss. But as I said, I have no idea if this was true, exagerated, or just completly wrong.

Yes it could if you do it every night or at once for 5 hours. I don't know how to stop it. Sleep in anorak?

before any permanent damage was done you would be woken up as after numbness comes pain which would stimulate the brain into waking you or moving you

Try sleeping in a different position, if it still happens, maybe you should see the doctor.

You could ask your doctor, but I've done this for years, and so far, I still have my hands. I think you'd wake yourself up if the circulation was cutting off blood supply.

It can show problems with your neck region. Some people can sleep with their hands above their head and suffer no problem. Circulation, nerves, You can talk to your doctor or Naturapath, Physiotherapist about help. It shouldnt cause long term problems unless you are getting numb apendages at awake times.
