Anesthetic awareness?

I know what anesthetic awareness is but I'd like to know if there's any way for the doctors to tell if you are fully awake or completely unaware?
Only the patient knows when they are awake during surgery, but is there a way they can make sure you're out?
I want to get my nose fixed soon. It's very minor (nose bridge) but I worry about being paralyzed and not being able to tell anyone. =[
