Thread: About giving Blood in Australia.?

I have given Blood in Australia for years. Iv lived here for 25/ 30 years. I went back to the U/K, been there for 5 years, given blood over there, no problems. Iv been back over here 6 months. I went to give over here last week, they said that I cant give, because I have been over to the U/K. for 5 years. Can somebody expand on that for me?

Mad cow disease.... the UK has had it, so you can't give blood here in Aus anymore, in case you've ingested any tainted meat.

They really should have explained that to you on the spot.

It's really unfortunate. It doesn't affect blood donations in the UK, since everyone in the UK is potentially at risk anyway.
