QUICK QUESTION ABOUT HD DVD PLAYER- picture is cut-off on left side of screen?

Hi. I've got a Sony Bravia HD TV and a Toshiba HD DVD player. When i watch a DVD, the left side of the image is cut off by a few inches, as though the DVD image is too big for my TV display area, and so it's cutting off the left side of the image. This does NOT happen when i'm just watching T.V. (cable input).

I tried adjusting the T.V.'s picture settings (wide, full, etc.) to no avail. One of the DVDs was wide screen; the other 2 did not indicate 'wide' or 'regular.'

What can i do to fix this problem??

Thank you!
