I am new at this things (so be as specific as you can) and I want to buy a camcorder that records more than the regular 30 minutes on the 1.4GB disks. However I would like to end up with DVDs, not just transfer "up to 8,5 hours" to my computer and leave it on the machine itself.

your dvd wont be able to be played in the regular dvd drive on your home tv. you do know that , ok the file format that you will need to have record the video will be mp4 , it surpasses divx quality in regard to compression and video quality , and the amount that it can record to. you will be able to fit around 8 hours maybe a bit more on a standard 4.7 disc.

here is the thing tho , most people these days have around 30gb of hd or sd disc room to play with , the room isnt probably what they will keep the majority of , but it will have things that they will keep.

I would suggest if you are to keep making dvd to disk , to readable dvd discs , get a copy of sonymedia software , so you can get the video's off your device , and into discs , and into your video collection off your computer
