How can I burn an AVI movie file from the HD of my MacBook on to a black DVD?

I have a ton (50+) movie files on my computer, all in AVI format. I'm running low on HD space so I'd like to transfer them over to a stack of black DVDs. I have a MacBook and a combo drive, so I know I'm able to burn/write DVDs but how do I? Do I need a special program?
