You can use either Yellow, White & Red or RGB with the White & Red! You can't use both RGB and Yellow.

RGB is HD video only.
Yellow is SD video only.
White & Red is stereo audio(left & right).

Hook up vcr/dvd to my directv HD reciever?

i have a combo dvd/vcr player. i wanna hook it up to my directv hd reciever. my back of the combo player has green, blue, red (composite) and yellow, white, and red. so if i plug the red, white, and yellow into the back of my receiver, then the green blue red to my tv, will i be able to record shows? (i dont care if its in HD or not) but if i have the red white yellow hooked up to the back of my HD receiver, then how will i use the green blue red cable to get audio???? i only have those 2 on the back of my combo, so if i do that how am i gonna get audio?????? im confused, easy step by step directions plzzzzzz
