Advice on hooking up Dual DVR to HD TV & DVD player to HD?

I have a 37in Toshiba flat screen HD I just bought. I am trying to figure out the best way to hook my Charter Motorola dual dvr up to the TV, whether I should just use the coax, or us HDMI, or RCA cables. Also the same for the DVD player. The TV has two HDMI jacks. I want to make sure I will still be able to record with both tuners on the DVD if I switch from coax... New to all this, so any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance...
