how can wi_fi be used in my mobile?for what purpose and do i need to pay anythng to the operator for using it?

Wi-Fi is a way to connect to the Internet without wires or cables. When you use Wi-Fi technology, you connect wirelessly to a base station that provides the link to the Internet or other type of network. Like if your at a coffee shop that has free access, you can use your phone in WiFi mode and connect to the internet at a faster speed.
You can also use it as a modem. Better know as tethering. Using it as a pam (phone as a modem) the carrier can charge a monthly service charge ( Sprint is $15.00 mo). This will allow you to connect your laptop for internet access.

You should enable it from setting. It can be used to access the Internet.

its same as wifi in laptops... u should have a place where wifi is enabled. then u can browse in u mobile itself

depending on the make/model there should be a wi-fi wizard in the menu. wi-fi has nothing to do with your operator as you are not using a mobile signal. some wi-fi hotspots charge you to connect while others are completely free.
