What to do when mobile phone touchscreen stops responding?

I have a Cingular 8125. Prior to the screen no longer responding - certain areas of it specifically- it had not been dropped. I can still activate everything around the corners of the screen but near the center the sensors must be numbed out.. and I have tried running the recalibration for making the stylus point accurately but it no longer helps because no matter where i point it will not continue to the end of the calibration. How does one fix their phone with this issue?

Try doing a hard reset. I imagine the phone is new (the 8125 is a new model), so you should consider bringing it back and demanding a new one. It could very well be a manufacturing defect.
