How come the mp3 music files on my cellphone cannot be used as ringtones for...

...my cellphone? How come the mp3 music files on my cellphone cannot be used as ringtones for my cellphone? The only files that can be used as my cellphone ringtune are recordings and midi files . How can i make the mp3 files as the ringtone of my cellphone?

Ringtones require a different format than an audio MP3 format. There are software converters on the market that will convert audio MP3 files to a ringtone format.

I think it has to be cut to under a minute or so. Mine is like that.

It depends on how long the sound sequences are. Typically, a tone must be either :20 or :30 seconds. Try editing it with Audacity:

it depends on the cell phone you have my old one didnt
and i can do it in my new one
some times the file format is different
i dont know why for you
i think cos of your phone

Because the music recording companies have legally defined those things as two different uses, two different mediums, and therefore charge seperately for each one.

Other phones/carriers may allow it, but it's not a technical problem - it's just that those companies have secured both types of rights to the files.
