Should i buy a new ps2 now; or wait for the newer model?

Does anybody have any clues as to when its comin out in the US ? Thanks !
i do have an xbox 360 .. but i wanted to play some RPGs (god of war mainly) on the ps2..and as far as i understand ps3 doesnt have backward compatibility !..and then thers this news about the new model 90000.. !
