Zoho has announced the launch of Zoho Pulse, its social network for business collaboration. With Zoho Pulse, a company can establish its own private, social network to encourage communication and collaboration among the entire organization as well as select departments and users. Zoho Pulse tightly integrates with a broad set of Zoho applications, thus enhancing productivity.Employees can stay on top of what’s going on within the organization through Zoho Pulse iPhone and Android mobile applications.

“When it comes to communication and collaboration, one size doesn’t fit all,” said Raju Vegesna, Zoho evangelist. “Just like there is room for various communication tools like email, instant messaging, audio conferencing, video conferencing, web conferencing and more, there is also room for collaboration apps like discussion forums, blogs, wikis, etc. They all have their place in an organization. Now, Zoho Pulse expands the collaboration potential of any company with a unique but complementary tool that can serve as a virtual water-cooler and keep employees informed about company-related activities. The best part is that Zoho doesn’t offer just one tool, but offers a broad variety of these communication and collaboration tools, all integrated together.”

Zoho Pulse enables collaboration between users, groups or within the entire organization. The platform offers three types of tools for company-wide collaboration: a company wall where employees can collaborate on various topics, a discussion forum and a blog.

Zoho Pulse enhances group collaboration by bringing together various group collaboration tools like discussion forums and document sharing along with custom apps — all within the context of a group. At the user level, users can view other users’ profiles, activity and contact information as well as send private messages and have an option to follow fellow users to be informed about any activity.

One of the most powerful advantages of Zoho Pulse is its integration with other Zoho applications, giving users access to additional collaboration, productivity and business applications without leaving the Zoho Pulse user interface. Pulse offers custom applications, powered by Zoho Creator, that allow businesses and groups to create business/group-specific applications. Zoho Pulse also brings powerful document management functionality via Zoho Docs, people directory and more, making it a very potent social intranet solution for businesses.

Additional highlights of Zoho Pulse include:

• Activity Streams and Notification Center – The company activity stream provides a consolidated view of all the posts made to the company wall. The user’s Pulse stream provides a consolidated view of all the activity of the people they are following, the company activity stream as well as group activity from the groups in which the user is a member. The notification center provides a summary of recent Zoho Pulse activity.

• Groups – Users can bring together colleagues and associates in one or more groups to foster focused, topical collaborations. Group discussions are visible only to group members. Groups may also hold private, members-only discussions in Forums, collaborate in Docs and use group-specific custom apps.

• Comprehensive Search – Zoho Pulse offers a comprehensive search to find individuals, groups or streams. People directory enables filtered searches of the company directory based on user name, department, location and other criteria.

Along with the Free Edition, Zoho Pulse is available in the Professional Edition for US$2 per user per month and the Enterprise Edition for US$5 per user per month. All three editions include iPhone and Android apps. The Free Edition is available for unlimited users, but with no support for groups. The Professional Edition and Enterprise Edition include unlimited public and private groups and 500 MB of file storage per user. The Enterprise Edition also includes custom apps via Zoho Creator.
