Yahoo messenger problem and windows 7 desktop gadgets wont show?

Awhile ago my windows 7 gadgets stopped showing properly and just showed up as messed up images(the clock is just a black box with a red line down the middle) or none at all. My UAC settings are all fine and correct, I tried disabling and re enabling them with SFC and nothing as worked.

Also around the same time this started my yahoo messenger stopped showing the messages in the message box, i cant even see the text in the history archives but the records of having a conversation are still there. My settings aren't changed at all so it has nothing to do with that ether so I'm assuming it has to do with the computer.

I'm going to assume these two problems are linked together somehow and i don't know how to fix them, i have looked up help online but have found no fix.
