Thread: What is an iPad and all the other gizmos?

Not being an up to date person I am puzzled by all this new technology.
What is an iPad. an IPod and all the other gizmos on the market?

What do they do that a computer and a mobile phone cant do?

The Ipad is pretty much an oversized Ipod touch. The touch is basically a hand held computer. You can listen to music, surf the web, download games, programs, anything you can think of that works with the internet. The possibilities are endless since a ton of applications are released and you can simply download them on the ipod touch and use them.
The only thing the touch cant do is take pictures since it doesnt have a camera, and make phone calls since it doesnt have an antenna like cell phones do. (but you could technically use a program and the internet to make phone calls).

An ipad is a very big iPod. An iPod is a device where you can listen to music. An iPod touch can have games and little programs called apps (applications). As for a mobile phone it's basically a phone you can take with you everywhere.

Functionally, an iPad is a large iPod touch, which is a handheld computing device.

It is Apple's aim at netbook computers, e-book readers, and some portable media/gaming devices.

What the iPad and iPod touch does is provide a very good unified user expierence, becasue Apple has a lot of control over how the device works, and what apps are sold through their store. That control is its achilles heel, in that you are limited to the apps available through Apple, and Apple has prejudices against Flash and other axioms of more open computing, which would surely knock down their control and user expierinece.
