This year an Auckland based team have the rights to one of the leading community run Open Source events, the Open Source Developers Conference. The Open Source Developers Conference (OSDC) has traditionally been held in Australia and is a non-profit volunteer run event aimed at IT professionals. The conference covers a wide range of Open Source technologies from low level development and frameworks up to the business value of Open Source technologies.
The focus for this years OSDC is Privacy and Security, and a number of speakers will highlight the benefits of using Open Source technologies in these areas. Highlights include identity management, protecting your data, secure programming and how to use the cloud in a secure manner.
Architects and developers using Open Source technologies as part of any Web 2.0 style environment will get value from the Database, PHP, Rails, PaaS and AWS sessions. Fans of DevOps are also well served with talks on release management, continuous integration, automated builds and the benefits of targeting a PaaS.
OSDC is the ideal opportunity to mingle with like minded developers and to preview bleeding-edge Open Source software. The conference hosts over fifty presentations from well-regarded speakers in the free and open source software (FOSS) community. Topics range from deeply technical investigations of different architectures, programming languages, software packages or hardware components, to broad strategic issues such as copyright and patents and partnering with media and government to foster innovation.
The best business software developers in the Australasian region come together and are exposed to the latest in development techniques, especially those which lead to faster, more efficient development cycles.
Keynotes include Sam Minnée from local success story Silverstripe, and Vikram Kumar from Mega talking about their experiences on using Open Source in a secure manner. OSDC is for any organisation which does software development, including those whose work is proprietary or solely for in-house use.

The event will be at the Langham Hotel in Auckland, 21-23rd of October 2013.
