Initial stocks of Xbox One sold out fast
Microsoft reports over 1 million of its new Xbox One were sold within 24 hours of the*game consoles hitting the street.The new games console went on sale just after midnight on Friday morning. New Zealand was the first country to officially sell the device. Another 12 countries launched the Xbox one on the same day. Microsoft says the console is currently sold out at most retailers around the world.
Microsoft’s sales compare with Sony which says it sold 1 million PS4 units in 24 hours after launching last Friday in just the USA and Canada. Sony’s PS4 will go on sale in many other countries later this week.
The scene is now set for a console war in the run up to Christmas. Sony appears to be mainly focused on the traditional games market while Microsoft’s strategy includes opening up the Xbox’s appeal to non-gamers with a range of interaction entertainment offerings including music, TV and movie services.
Both companies are expected to sell between 2.5 and 3 million units by the end of the year.
New Zealand retailers are selling the Xbox one for $750.
