I joined Ballys Total Fitness, and I want to quit it completely.

But I heard a lot of horror stories about it

I can afford to pay off the entire debt -- So I was wondering, if I just pay off the whole thing, can I get rid of it completely?

Yes, if you pay off what you owe, including cancellation fees, then you can. I suggest you go to the ballys you signed up at and tell them you want to end your contract. Have them give you a receipt for your payment and get the cancellation in writing. That way if the cancellation doesn't go through then you have the paperwork to back it up.
