Why can DC be shorted but not AC?
This may be a stupid question, but it really bugs me. Using a DC power supply, you can do whatever you want. You can touch the anode to the cathode and arc it and short it, etc. as much as you're inclined. However, I have been told (I haven't done this myself) that if you try to short an AC supply, such as a house hold wall socket, that it will begin to radically up the amperage until a circuit breaker is tripped. Why is this?
