Help with bearshare and ares?10 points?

Ok heres the 411 ..I have downloaded bearshare(old version) thats the only 1 I like and ares like 8 times and no connection. Yes I even disabled the firewall all together and stil no connection. Please tell me what I should do.But of course frostwire which sucks works.
