Do I need duplicate fonts on both C:\windows\fonts and on c:\shared files\fonts?

Do I need duplicate fonts on both C:\windows\fonts and on c:\shared files\fonts?

I'm looking to save a little c: drive space and wonder if I can delete the duplicate fonts from one or other of these directories. Do I need them in both locations? Windows XP Professional x64
