Why does the Alfa Romeo Giulietta depreciate so quickly?

Why on earth would anybody buy a brand new one?

A car's depreciation (i.e. resale value) is affected by factors such as brand perception, initial sales price, reliability, popularity and specification.

In this case Alfa Romeos have never had a great reputation for reliability and generally struggle against their mainstream competitors (VW, Audi etc) in terms of sales volumes, therefore the second hand market price reflects this.
