Should I start Antonio Gates or Mercedes Lewis week 1?
The reports show Gates will not start but play
Gates (toe) will play on Sunday against the Panthers, but he does not expect to be able to make his usual contributions, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Spin: "I won't start the game, obviously," said Gates. "This thing (toe) is so tricky on what I'm able to do. There's times I'm out here and I feel like I'm Superman, and then there's times I come out here and it just won't allow me to do certain things. Sunday will definitely tell the tale and give me a clear picture of what I can do in the game." These are not positive comments at all from Gates, and it is starting to look like he might be more limited than we would have guessed heading into the season. If you have another legitimate option at tight end, it might be prudent to take a wait and see approach with Gates
