Jaguar XJ6 - how do you see if it's SWB or LWB?

Since I've never seen comparative pictures, I've never been sure as to how exactly you can see the difference between a Short Wheelbase and a Long Wheelbase, especially around Series 2 (seventies).
Here's what I've heard so far:
1) - the stretching is in the rear passenger doors, and you see the diff by "feeling" it.
2) - you can also see it around the lid for the pipe leading down to the petrol (gas) tank. I don't know the word for this, but hope you understand.

I don't really know if any of these claims are true. Is there a definite element that one can see easily?
