My cruise control in my '01 Honda Accord is not working!?

Recently, I turned on my car but was unable to shift out of park. I thought that it could be a solenoid switch next to the gear shift so I was able to push down that button near the gear shift so it would release it out of park. I had to continually do this, so I assumed it was a bad solenoid switch. When I took the car in, the mechanic ended up replacing the brake switch and said that it was actually the brake switch (it now does shift out of park).

The cruise control, though, did not work the next time I tried it (only a day after getting the brake switch replaced). The same mechanic said everything looked fine and that he didn't see where he had accidentally unplugged something. Also, the fuse is not bad either.

Any ideas on what the problem could be, and is it an expensive fix?

Most vehicles today have a "cruise" switch somewhere on the dashboard to prevent accidental activation of the cruise control. Make sure the dashboard has a light that reads, "cruise" (in all capitals, of course!) Now, take your car out for a "joyride" where there is a long stretch of road and no traffic lights or stop signs. You must be going at least 35 mph for a minimum of 5 seconds. Press and release the 'CRUISE" button. It should illuminate. Press and hold the "SET" button on the steering wheel and release the accelerator. Now, release the "SET" button. do not touch the accelerator and press the "accelerate" or "ACCEL". You should begin to pick up speed. If this is correct, your cruise control is working properly.
