Kia Immobiliser does not stop beeping?

Just picked up an 1995 Kia Sportage today .
Everything was fine till I unlocked the car for the second time and now the immobiliser just keeps beeping all the time even when the car is locked from the outside . Also, it does not immobilise the engine anymore .
I would be gratefull for any ideas
